Compassion Former Sponsor Child Christine Uwase Visits Minemax

Minemax News

The Minemax Perth team recently had the privilege of meeting a former Compassion sponsored child from Rwanda, Christine Uwase, who was visiting Australia for the very first time to tell her story of hope and transformation.

Christine’s young life was marked by tragedy when she lost her parents in the Rwandan genocide and faced a life of extreme poverty. “Living in extreme poverty does not only mean that you are hungry but it also destroys your identity on the inside. You feel very empty and sad all the time, you think your life has no meaning and that you don’t belong anywhere,” explained Christine during her visit.

Christine also shared some very confronting details of her early life. The day she was selected for Compassion’s child sponsorship program transformed her life forever. She and her siblings received educational assistance, food and other basic supplies.

With the support of Compassion she recently completed university where she studied political science. She now works as a child protection officer for Save the Children at a refugee camp for displaced children from Burundi. Christine dreams of becoming involved in politics to positively influence the direction of her nation.

We felt extremely privileged to have Christine visit us to personally share her heart-rending yet inspiring story. Minemax have been proud supporters of Compassion’s work for a number of years. Thanks to Christine, we have heard first-hand that it works. We wish Christine well as she travels back to Rwanda to continue to give so generously of herself.
